“Refined Irreverence” pays long-overdue homage to Carolina Herrera

It’s hard to believe that Carolina Herrera has never been honored with a museum exhibition. After 35 years with countless contributions to fashion, culture and art in the most fickle of arenas, the time has come to celebrate her greatness and longevity.

Through September 25th, the SCAD FASH Museum of Fashion + Film in Savannah will hold an exhibition of Herrera’s work. Even Herrera herself didn’t imagine that this is where she’d be when she was asked by the esteemed Diana Vreeland, former editor of Vogue as to why she doesn’t create her own collection. Now 35 years later, Herrera’s contributions are immense… she’s become known for effortless elegance and modern class. With runway, bridal, day wear and red-carpet looks on her docket year after year, surely it was tough choosing just 75 garments from the archives to display. Placed on alabaster mannequins, each piece is a work of art. Strolling through the exhibition just prior to opening day, Mrs. Herrera said she was moved. β€œIt was a dream that became a reality,” she said. β€œI was left speechless.” Certainly well deserved!

We love this quote from Mrs. Herrera, “I have a responsibility to the woman of today- to make her feel confident, modern and above all else, beautiful”. Thank you to a woman who embodies elegance with each and every step she takes!
