Editor’s Letter – October 2016

October 03, 2016

Fall is certainly off to a roaring start, with EXPO here in Chicago in it’s fifth year, and a booming success. We are very proud to share that we purchased several fine art pieces at Expo including two large wood cut lithographs by John Buck and a bronze horse by his talented wife, Deborah Butterfield. We also bought a wonderful collage of photographs by Paolo Ventura that feature the artist’s self portrait with his wife. Photographs by Sandro Miller and Robert and Shana Park-Harrison from the Catherine Edelman Gallery.  And three very large photos by Nick Brandt from his series in Africa.

Suzanne Lovell Inc. had a fabulous editorial in BOAT International Magazine, a tremendous boost by No Parallels Magazine for our Dream Penthouse at the new 94-story Vista Tower, and last but not least, we share a master class with Barbara Sallick in her recently released book, The Perfect Bath! We had an exciting visit from the folks at Carpenters Workshop who shared the spectacular works of Vladimir Kagan, lighting by Random International, and a silver plated brass “turtle” cabinet by Vincenzo de Cotiis that we loved.

I had the opportunity to meet Stephanie D’Alessandro, Gary C. and Frances Comer Curator of Modern Art at the Art Institute, who shared a marvelous recent acquisition by Max Ernst dated 1919 entitled Pregnant Woman, a spectacular example of the Eastern European painters from the hopeful period between World War I and Hitler. This is a must-see painting that is housed in the Modern second floor gallery and is a pivotal addition to the world class collection of the Chicago Art Institute.

And for it’s opening night gala, the Lyric Opera staged an absolutely spectacular new production of Das Rheingold, the first to the four part Ring Cycle by Wagner. The staging and costumes were only matched by the incredible voices!!  Another must see performance!  I was lucky enough to see this on the same day that Muti conducted Beethoven’s 7th Symphony to a standing ovation crowd!!  An equally spectacular performance.  Fall is here and culture in Chicago is unmatched by many!! Be sure to also get tickets for the coming brand new production by the Joffrey Ballet of the Nutcracker!

An exciting month for sure, and the holiday season is already upon us!  Enjoy!!

All my best.
