Highlights From Our Trip to Basel, Switzerland – Art Basel Favorites

The Art Basel fair is so large and full to the brim with outstanding works of art! It is hard to pick favorites, but we have selected three works that stand out in our minds from the fair!

First, we are in love with Mark Bradford’s new work. His piece at the Hauser & Wirth gallery was breathtaking. Truly capturing Bradford’s ability to layer materials to create a stunning composition. This piece also stands out as we got to meet Bradford himself in the booth!!

Mark Bradford (American 1961), Dive Into Criticism, 2014.

Callum Innes was another favorite artist from the trip. His work of adding paint in layers and then removing some of the pigment, creates vibrant color field works with extreme depth. We were fortunate enough to meet Callum Innes at Sean Kelly’s booth.

Callum Innes (British, 1962) Untitled Lamp Black Number 12, 2014.

Sean Scully has long been an artist we have watched, however his new works are even more exciting. As a dealer told us this trip, Scully seems to have entered a very happy period in his career. His works are brighter and have a sense of playfulness we have not seen before, an exciting turn in his career!

Sean Scully (Ireland, 1945) Landline Green Yellow, 2014.
