Kintsukuroi – beauty in the broken

Kintsukuroi means literally “to repair with gold.” The term is used to describe the Japanese art form of repairing broken pottery with gold or silver lacquer. This tradition is rooted in the belief that objects may be more beautiful after they have been broken and repaired with new detail. As we create interiors, we must be conscious of not making everything too precious; A home is a place to live, relax and share with friends and family. The kintsukuroi tradition reminds us of this balance between beauty and fragility.
