20th Century Titans that we love both get NYC shows

20th Century art wouldn’t have been the same without both David Hockney and Robert Motherwell.  At 78, Hockney still spends 7 days a week in his studio.  One of the lucky ones, this artist always reaped the financial rewards and critical acclaim that plagued some of his counterparts during their lifetimes.  At Pace Gallery, you can view this retrospective, unimaginatively titled “David Hockney: Some New Paintings (and Photography)”.

Robert Motherwell’s simple shapes paired with contrasting bold color help to define Abstract Expressionism.  His 40-year career was impressive and is beautifully curated at the Paul Kasim Gallery in NYC, “Robert Motherwell: Words on Paper”.  His degree in philosophy and way with words made him the “interpreter” of the Abstract Expressionism movement in America.

Roughly of the same time frame, peruse both their galleries and decide for yourself which exhibition is more your style!
