Amazing palapa in an amazing location!

We had the pleasure of relaxing in the most amazing location recently… the Mukul Resort on the Emerald Coast of Nicaragua. The word “mukul” means “secret” in Mayan, and we are happy to report that it’s a secret we’ve found!

Perhaps the most beautiful feature of this first-class boutique hotel (and there were so many to choose from) is the palapa. With the distinction of being the “largest palapa in Central America”, it’s breath-taking in sheer size and beauty!  Palapas are relatively new, meaning only several hundreds of years old, to Mexico and Central America. Thatched roofs made from dried palm leaves and provide great shade in these typically warm and sunny locations. Palapas are perhaps the most important architectural contributions of Philippine culture… and lucky for us! Palapas instantly bring on a sense of relaxation and the feeling of “being on the vacation”.
