The challenge bestowed was to create a “one-of-a-kind ensemble using products familiar to design professionals everywhere”. Randomly paired, twenty teams of interior design firms and product manufacturers worked together to conquer this unique competition. As you can imagine, formulating a dress out of hard materials was quite difficult… but obviously, not impossible. Laser cutting the wood and using a water jet to cut the metal laminates into small repeating patterns was how this team spent 400(!) hours. The finished product is currently on display in Salt Lake City and will soon make its way to other local universities and companies.
