The Amber Room is a world famous chamber decorated in amber panels with gold leafing and mirrors located in the Catherine Palace of Tsarskoye near St. Petersburg and created by German and Russian sculptors and craftsmen in the 1700s. When the room was complete, it held an estimated 13,000 lbs of amber. Some even considered the room the 8th wonder of the world.
The room was looted and vanished during WW2, and knowledge of its whereabouts remains a mystery today. The Russians tried to hide the room at the start of the war behind bland wallpaper, but it was discovered, dismantled, removed, and shipped off to another city (Konigsberg) for storage and display. The Amber Room was never seen again. A replica of the treasured room was created in the Catherine Palace in 2003 after years of work! Enjoy these expertly assembled details of the replica below.
