The exciting bespoke rug company Art + Loom was founded in Miami, Florida ten years ago by Samantha Gallacher. Over the past decade, the high-end rug and textile firm has become known for their graphic, one-of-a kind designs that are all hand-made in Nepal and India using techniques that have been handed down for many generations.

Gallacher graduated from The New York School of Interior Design; following graduation, she worked with some of Manhattan’s top designers including Bob Kaner, Kureck and Jones, and Glenn Gissler. However it was her personal desire to create and innovate that prompted her to start Art + Loom… for that we are grateful!

Gallacher believes that rugs have the ability to compliment any space. As such, she founded Art + Loom (courtesy of Clima Home) “on the belief that there is no singular aesthetic, size, or color scheme that works in every home.” Her bespoke pieces allow her customers the ability to design “rugs that are as unique to their spaces as original works of art.”

Gallacher often pairs up with the industry’s top designers and collaborates with talented artists across many mediums to create beautiful designs. The firm has been adept at partnering with companies including DAMA Objects and Fayette Studio to create custom, contemporary works for the floor.

Courtesy of Surface Magazine, Gallacher says “I’ve set out to turn fine art and mixed media art into woven rug creations.” We believe she’s succeeded… and it does not hurt that the long (and growing) list of designers and companies she has worked with is impressive.

For Gallacher, there is no perfect rug… rather, the perfect rug is dependent on what her clients’ needs. The designer believes that a rug should be a statement that does not distract from everything else that is going on in the room. Rugs should anchor and compliment the space within which they are placed.

Gallacher enjoys playing with forms and shapes… this assists her in creating the perfect compliment for each space. Usually, a floor plan provides a rough guideline for the rug’s dimensions.

For Milan Design Week 2023, Gallacher collaborated with interior designer Bea Pernia to present “The Art of Formation.” The collection draws inspiration from rocks; specifically, it is a study on the intersection of sculptures and the  function of rocks within them and how they have been shaped over time. Courtesy of Stir Pad, “The showcase will serve as a reminder to marvel at the Earth’s primordial majesty, the ever-evolving process of geological formation, and the genesis of Earth.”

Gallacher wants to design rugs that you don’t find in other showrooms. Luckily with rugs, there are few constraints due to the basic principles of no limits with repeat and not having to order hundreds of each design. As such, each rug can be its own spotlighted item.

It is Gallacher’s vast knowledge of the design industry, specifically textiles and color, that have allowed her to turn Art + Loom into a booming, bespoke firm. In particular, it is the “art for the floor” that has garnered thousands of fans. We can’t wait to see what she’ll design next!
