Art meets science bears fruit?

American artist, Sam Van Aken, has passionately worked to merge sculpture with the agriculture of planting trees.  Van Aken’s project of “Tree of 40 Fruit” is well… exactly what it sounds like.  In this ongoing series, Mr. Van Aken grafts together many different varieties of fruit-bearing trees.  The mechanics of this are more complicated than we can describe, but take a moment to check out Van Aken’s web site.  16 such trees yielding apricots, peaches and almonds, among others, have been produced so far in various parts of the country.  Perhaps the solutions to many questions lie in the intersection of science and art?
