The Arts Club of Chicago has a colorful history. Currently in it’s 8th location (all designed by Chicagoans), the museum has been a fixture in Chicago’s vibrant art scene since 1916. Until MoMA opened, The Arts Club of Chicago was the largest exhibitor of modern art in the U.S. In fact, the first showing of Picasso in the U.S. was at The Arts Club of Chicago. When the space designed by Ludwig Miles van der Rohe was demolished and the new space at 201 East Ontario Street was built, the infamous “floating staircase” was moved to the new locale. Take some time and visit this interesting club if you have some spare time in Chicago!
