Wright Auction had a very interesting “Important Italian Glass” auction on June 13, 2015, and after paging through the catalog, we realized that all of our selections were by the same person – Ercole Barovier was clearly our favorite. As we learned more about Barovier, we learned that the eldest member of this Italian Glass house, Angelo Barovier, is credited with the creating the first clear glass, called cristallo in the 15th century. Ercole entered the family business in 1920 and turned the storied company into a household name. To learn more about the history of Barovier glass, read this Architectural Digest article.
Here are a few of our favorite pieces by Ercole Barovier from the recent auction.
