Throughout the years, there’s been such a strict perception on what African design really is. That’s why we love Tapiwa Matsinde’s book (published May, 2015) titled, “Contemporary Design Africa” which brings together a variety of different styles and pays homage to the traditional.
With a primary focus on interior design, Matsinde focused on 50 designers and artisans based either in Africa or part of a group that’s creating sophisticated and innovative African products and interiors. We love the descriptions on how traditional methods are being reinvented; such as the masterful techniques of Zulu master weavers.
In a discipline that’s perhaps a bit foreign for us all, this book by British/Zimbabwean writer Tapiwa Matsinde is a wonderful collection of people using interior design to, in essence, create a community!
