Seeing the need for designing home fittings into “jewels for the house,” Massimo Buster Minale founded Buster + Punch in 2013. The London-based architect and industrial designer established the Enlightenment design company out of his East Long garage.

It has been a decade since Minale discovered his passion for designing things that he loved. Today, his pieces include everything from lighting to home housewares, and custom motorcycles to whiskey bars.

Inspired by London’s fashion, sub-culture, and music scene, Minale often collaborates with up-and-coming fashion designers, bike builders, and street artists. Commonly, those progressive individuals inform the company’s edgy style.

When asked how Buster + Punch came to be, Minale said (courtesy of the company’s website), “I was working as an architect by day and making custom motorbikes by night. In a garage in Shoreditch, East London, I taught myself how to transform stock vintage motorbikes into one-off customs. I made all the parts from scratch and started selling my motorbikes to London’s most notorious. Being an architect. requests soon turned from motorbikes to home fittings and I set about making everything from door handles to toilet roll holders.”

Buster + Punch recently debuted the world’s first designer LED lightbulb. The Buster Bulb and a number of puck-shaped and dimmable teardrop LED bulbs were designed in order to offer their clients the most optimal lighting possible. Suitable for the company’s specific lighting fixtures, these energy-efficient bulbs are both stylish and functional.

The Buster Bulb is available in three finishes: crystal, gold, and smoked, and it is made from robust polycarbonate. Recently, the company added the Buster Bulb- Tube to their offerings; the elongated light bulb is available only in a crystal resin finish.

The company’s door handles are created in solid metal; their design brings a hip look to a product that has remained relatively unchanged for many decades. One of Buster + Punch’s signature features is the cross and linear knurls that are used in the door hardware. The unique texture provides a tactile experience, in addition to a contemporary appearance.

Buster + Punch’s cabinet hardware works in symmetry with the company’s door handles. Providing pull bars, drawer knobs, and closet bars, the pieces are all made from solid metal… a far cry from the products’ humble beginnings as functional, simple pieces made from either wood or brass.

Today, Buster + Punch has expanded to designing lifestyle items which include candles, water bottles, pet accessories, jewelry, home accessories, and a special collaboration with Travis Barker that centers on skulls. Minale clearly is not satisfied with status quo.

As he said, “The seed was planted and my love child between architecture and motorbikes was born.” He continued, “In a nutshell, my mission is to reinvent forgotten home fittings into the unforgettable.” Buster + Punch is certainly committed to elevating traditional home items in a way we’ve never seen before!
