Callum Innes was born in Edinburgh in 1962. He is known for his explorations of color and pictoral space that he creates through an additive and subtractive process. His process of “unpainting” reveals varied veils of color. It’s the making and unmaking and the absolute technical skill with which Innes applies paint that is so unique, and so sophisticated.

The artist’s work was featured in a major exhibition at the National Gallery of Scotland last year, as Innes was dubbed one of the leaders of his generation.

Innes lives and works in Scotland, and is represented by the Sean Kelly Gallery in the U.S., Frith Street Gallery in London, and Kerlin Gallery in Dublin. For more about this wonderful artist, enjoy his personal website here.

We were thrilled to meet Callum Innes last year in Basel! You can have a glimpse into his process if you view the piece from one side and compare it with the other.
