Canadian sauna spells paradise!

Keeping in mind that “Sans Souci” literally means “no worries” in French, it’s no surprise that this sauna has become a meeting place for the weekenders on this remote island! Total seclusion comes at a steep price, so the Toronto based architectural firm Partisans was excited to get this prefab mid-century project and make a name for themselves among this elite group!

Set at the water’s edge and made from a special “rot-resistant” cedar. Each piece is integral in the piecing together of panels, almost like a bunch of puzzle pieces. The wood pieces combine in such a way that there is an organic and alive feeling to everything. As National Geographic ranked the sunsets on this site as one of the best in the world,’ says Alexander Josephson (partner at Partisans, the group enlisted for this unique project), an unobstructed view of the Northern Ontario horizon was a “must” and completes the serene experience at the Grotto!

Contrary to the exterior which is clean-lined, the interior is made up of amorphous shapes. Big windows allow for a view of Lake Huron horizon.
