The Clark Institute gets a facelift, 10 years in the making!

10 years and $100 millions dollars later, The Clark Institute in Western Massachusetts reopened last week.  Originally opened in the 1950’s by Sterling and Francine Clark , the Institute was built as a place to house the Clarks’ impressive art collection and also to serve as a major art library with the aim of promoting art research and conservation.  Pritzker award-winning Japanese architect Tadao Ando designed a new building named The Stone Hill Center.  This seemingly unassuming building is beautifully set among the beautiful, natural (140 acre) estate.  The one-story, concrete & granite structure opens up to glass interior walls 3-stories high which overlook gorgeous reflecting pools.  Typical of Ando’s style, this is just the place to sit and reflect upon what you just viewed inside this newly opened masterpiece.  Come with your skates during wintertime and you’ll be able to ice-skate on the frozen ponds with the rest of the community!
