Desiree Dolron’s masterful photographs make Flemish Old Master portraits new

Dutch-born photographer Desiree Dolron manipulates images in an endless quest for perfection, calling her work “puzzles with millions of pixels”. Dolron’s “Xteriors” series is a perfect example of how she took Flemish paintings and adapted them to today’s aesthetics… skin tone and facial expressions are manipulated and sometimes, different model’s faces are combined to create the face her mind sees. Her influences for this work include the Northern Renaissance masterpiece by Petrus Christus, Portrait of a Young Woman c. 1465-70, as well as Vermeer and Rembrandt.

The art market has responded as she achieved nearly double the estimate at Phillips Evening Sale this past April. The painterly feel of these photographs is certainly masterful!
