Since 1925, Le Creuset has been making cast iron cookware that’s unlike all others. When Armand Desaegher, a casting specialist, and Octave Aubecq, an enameling expert, realized the need to improve the current cookware offerings, Le Creuset was born. Even today, you can rest assured that Le Creuset still manufactures their cast iron in the original foundry, with each piece passing through the hands of 15 skilled artisans to ensure flawless perfection.
Using Le Creuset as a point of departure, we’ve found a new wave of beautiful and functional cookware.Recently, we came upon FINEX, an organization who has brought back cast iron production to the US for the first time in over 50 years. All made in Portland, these heirloom quality cast iron pieces are elegant and beautiful enough to serve from. As they like to say, “Your history is built one meal at a time.”
We’ve also become intrigued with Terra.Cotto, a British company that produces terra cotta pots and pans created with a special “fireproof” clay-based mixture which can be used on an open flame. The matte colors are a nice juxtaposition against the strong geometric designs.
