Erin Sullivan is a New York based designer/artist who works primarily in bronze. We especially appreciate the tactile quality and pristine execution of her work on the snake, alligator and feather sculptural stools. “I love the warmth of bronze, the tone and color; it’s sensual yet quite challenging to work with,” Sullivan says. “It was important that my first collection be enduring, something that stands the test of time, and I think bronze speaks to that.” “I was looking at old sketches of rings and bracelets, which I had worked on while in metal smithing, and I saw them blown up as tables and stools,” she says. “That was when I knew I was meant to make furniture and objects.” But it wasn’t until Sullivan became deeply involved in her own renovation projects (an 1803 Dutch stone house in Lomontville and her New York City pied-à-terre) that a new career ensued. “There were things I wanted for those spaces that simply didn’t exist,” she says. “It developed my interest in functional form and I became obsessed with designing.”
