New-York City-based photographer, Todd Eberle, photographs both his gardens and the galaxies above to create his Cosmos series.
Fascinated with space since his youth, Mr Eberle manipulates images from the Hubble telescope through their site, HubbleSite.org. The telescope’s photos are so detailed that Mr. Eberle then flips and distorts the images, adding color to produce an image that’s colorful and unique. These are the “Heavens” part of his Cosmos collection.
For the “Gardens” part, Mr. Eberle doesn’t have to travel further than his outdoor garden. Picking his subjects, he carefully arranges them in natural light. Digitally flipping the image, he creates a picture whose quadrants are completely symmetric to one another. The coloration is so striking that the subjects almost look fake.
Different people see different things within the photos… faces, maps, animals? That’s part of the fun and the purpose, viewers are able to decipher their own ideals from the photographs and come to their own conclusions which might be that indeed, gardens and galaxies aren’t quite as different as we initially thought!
