Farm to Frame Part II: Jack Shainman School

Here is Part II of our wonderful experience with the Farm to Frame tour that we sponsored. After a delicious local lunch at the Re Institute we drove about 45 minutes to Kinderhook, NY. Here we were welcomed into Jack Shainman’s School. The space is a converted school building, that is now a fantastic contemporary art gallery. Mr. Shainman, who has a home just a few minutes away, had always dreamed of a place where he could both store and display art that was not currently on exhibition at his New York City gallery spaces. Finally, in May of this year, this dream became a reality. The School opened with an exhibition  by Nick Cave that received rave reviews.  We saw pieces  by a variety of artists, including Nick Cave and El Anatsui. The work by El Anatsui at the school (pictured below) was absolutely breath taking. A total show stopper and now we cant miss the El Anatsui show Mr. Shainman is having at his 24th street gallery going on now until November 15th, titled Trains of Thought.

If you are planning a trip to the Hudson Valley here are a few tips … We stayed at the most lovely little Bed and Breakfast. The Inn at 240 is highly recommended, the rooms are lovely, it is in downtown Hudson, and the inn keepers treat you to a gourmet breakfast every morning! We had dinner at Swoon Kitchen which was outstanding, right on the main street in Hudson. Finally, an evening in Rhinebeck is a must, and stop into Market St. restaurant for dinner. They have fantastic pastas and pizzas and you will feel like you found a little bit of New York City in the country!
