FBC London was founded in 2013 by Fiona Barratt-Campbell, an award winning designer known for a “cultured design ethos.” The young designer started her journey when she left England to study at New York City’s Parsons School of Design. Growing up with her parents and grandfather in the home renovating business, Barratt-Campbell quickly realized that home and design were in her genes.

First and foremost an interior designer, Barratt-Campbell started working in her own studio in 2006; before too long, she was designing custom items for her clients. The designer rapidly understood the need for elegant bespoke interiors; that is how she segued into launching her own furniture collection.

The beautiful collection relies on the designer’s philosophy: opposites attract. Often blending (courtesy of Lux Deco), “the natural and the manmade, the raw and the smooth, the matte and the metallic.” These unique juxtapositions are timeless in their modern simplicity.

With a showroom on London’s prestigious Pimlico Road and a flagship showroom and headquarters in Victoria, styling pieces together draws a focus on Barratt-Campbell’s elegant aesthetics. Textural beauty and the most luxurious of finishes present a stunning selection of items. For example, “Sumptuous suedes and silk velvets envelop seating and hand-applied oak chips distinguish cabinetry while unique resin finishes characterize tabletops.”

Inspiration comes to the designer in many forms. The natural world and all its shapes, terrains, and textures fuel Barratt-Campbell’s intrigue with Mother Nature. In addition, a fascination with Roman history; mainly Roman ruins and found jewelry, can be found in the collections’ “stone silhouettes and intricate patterns.” The furniture shows how the combination of the manmade and natural fit together seamlessly.

British craftsmanship is at the forefront of the brand’s ethos. Barratt-Campbell has a long list of contacts that she relies upon to help create her vision. Included in the artisans she relies upon are traditional cabinetmakers and metalworkers who are able to translate the expertise gained working on British steel warships to her specific designs. By combining traditional and modern techniques, the designer has said, “We use everything from bronze casting, which is based on a 3000- year-old process, to the latest laser-cutting techniques.”

Specific and unique finishes are personally developed at the factory located in Victoria. Made by FBC-London’s founder herself, Barratt-Campbell maintains that this is what continues to separate the company from its competitors. She gets great pleasure in seeing how her clients personally respond to the beautiful pieces.

FBC-London has become familiar with a signature cast bronze badge thanks to high-quality British craftsmanship. This is applied to each piece of the company’s bespoke pieces as a way to honor every pair of hands that touches the furniture item. With over one hundred items in the collection, almost each single piece of furniture has been redesigned beautifully.

The designer says it best, “My designs are born of a passion to create pieces inspired by history and the natural world.” We are so thankful for this passion!
