Heatherwick Studio and the Shanghai Expo

Exterior view of the main structure of the UK Pavilion by Heatherwick Studio.

The World Expo in 2010 was held in Shanghai, where more than 200 countries built structures to represent their architectural and cultural prominence. The UK chose Heatherwick Studio to represent them to the 70 million visitors of the World Expo.

Heatherwick Studio took an out of the box approach where texture created form. With a limited budget they needed to create a smaller building that would have a large and lasting impact. They did exactly that! The building was considered one of the top 5 within the World Expo and is a demonstration of Heatherwick’s ability to create forms in new and exciting ways.
