Jason Miller is a very busy man… founder of Roll & Hill, he’s also founded Jason Miller Studio which makes gorgeous hand-thrown ceramics. The Brooklyn-based designer is best known for being a lighting designer, but we’re thrilled that he recently bought a throwing wheel and is back to creating beautiful bowls.

Miller took a wheel throwing class in college and then stepped away from the craft for twenty years. Several years ago, he bought himself a pottery wheel and began throwing again. He is quite talented with shapes and forms, and the pieces he creates are very pleasing to the eye.

Especially interesting about Miller’s jugs and vases is that some feature metal or wooden handles, quite a different concept. The idea of mixing different materials, as well as functional and handmade elements, makes for an inspiring collection.

Unique to Miller’s ceramics is the metallic glaze detail at the edge of the bowls (or vases or jugs). The glaze is a bit reminiscent of Japanese ceramics. All of the pieces in Miller’s ceramic collection are handmade in the United States.

We are thrilled that Miller has diversified and decided to add ceramics to his prolific lighting design business. The beauty and simplicity of his production process doesn’t involve big machinery or long production lines; yet the end result is stunning!
