Famous French architect Jean Nouvel has been working on this graceful high-end residential tower for over a decade, and when completed, it will become his third structure in New York City. It will also stand among the city’s 20+ supertall towers at 1,050 feet high. Construction has started, and units became available for purchase in September with move-in slated to begin in 2018. This beautiful building will certainly be the envy of all its neighbors with spacious units, stunning views, and new galleries for MoMA located within the building.
Architecturally, Nouvel manages to express the structure of the building in a graceful manner that celebrates its’ beauty. The diagonal cross-bracing that gives the façade its unique appearance is actually fundamental to the structure of the building, almost reminiscent of the Hancock Tower in Chicago. Throughout the interior, the diagonal columns are celebrated by leaving them exposed and unadorned so even when you are inside, there is no doubt that you are inhabiting a structural masterpiece.
The palettes for both the interior and exterior are refined, subtle expressions of elegance with neutral tones, warm woods and beautiful stones. Perfect for the clean, modern feel of the architecture!
And Nouvel certainly didn’t ignore the details, even the hardware chosen for the doors was meant to create a dialogue with the overall shape of the building and his design aesthetic.
