Jeanne Gang Looks to San Francisco

Last year, Jeanne Gang unveiled renderings of her new proposed residential skyscraper in San Francisco. Gang, while most well-known for the newest Chicago architectural icon Aqua, is also a MacArthur Fellow.

Dating back to 1906 and 1989, San Francisco has not been at the forefront of skyscraper design. A recent push in the Transbay District, though, is making up for lost time.

Gang’s 40-story proposed skyscraper would be just one of a number of new buildings designed by big name architects from around the world, including Rem Koolhaas, Renzo Piano, OMA, Foster and Partners and Skidmore Owings and Merrill for San Francisco!

Gang told San Francisco Chronicle critic John King, “What I like about tall buildings is what you do with the height, the incremental moves along the way.” This skyscraper would incrementally rotate large bay windows for each unit to create a twisting tower effect.
