This past week, as Americans marked Veteran’s Day, the British commemorated Armistice Day. This equivalent to our Veteran’s Day was especially poignant this year. 888,246 ceramic red poppies were “planted” near the Tower of London. This “ground coverage” was meant to honor each British military fatality during war from WWI until the war in Afghanistan. The display is so striking and it definitely brings perspective to the thousands of fallen British heroes. We only wish the poppies weren’t removed instantly; we hope that Paul Cummings (ceramic artist) and Tom Piper (stage director) team up again soon for another masterful installation with profound meaning and purpose!
