Hailing from Columbia, Marcela Cure is a unique artist who creates amazing hand-sculpted collectable design objects. Cure’s interpretation of the female form is striking… legs and arms which are delicately hand-sculpted in clay, and later hand-cast in a resin and stone mixture. The limbs are always portrayed in alluring fashion.

Cure remains inspired by her late mother’s creativity, an artist herself. In addition, the designer was inspired by her hometown upbringing. Barranquilla’s folklore and tradition of Carnival further inspire Cure. Her pieces are (courtesy of the designer’s website) “clever reinterpretations of modernity and fresh perspectives on what it means to be Latin American.”

The artist graduated with an engineering degree which helps to explain the specific nature within her array of female-inspired items. The varied series of objects and sculptures are a wonderful ode to the physical form of women.

In late 2015, Cure founded an interior design firm that focuses on contemporary, high-end projects with a Latin American twist. For the past eight years, Cure’s brand has developed a unique collection of items. Courtesy of the artist’s website, “Cure dances on the edge of tradition counting on her multidisciplinary insights to inform her designs while trusting the work of fastidious master artisans to supply each piece with natural grace.”

Cure’s pieces usually evoke an element of surprise. Specifically, the Corpo Luce Collection where each item is inspired by the seductive form of the female human body. Needing no explanation, the pieces… whether bowls or bookends… captivate.

The collection’s pieces are hand-sculpted in clay and later hand-cast in a mixture of resin and stone. The assemblage includes ten unique sculptures with inner candles that are available in sandalwood, biblichor, and tobacco scents.

Cure’s sculptures curiously refer to the “anatomical considerations” of artists of the Italian Renaissance style. However, the pieces have a precise geometry that evokes a deliberate mind-frame. The balance between femininity and female power remains at the core of Cure’s wonderfully strong, yet intentionally delicate pieces.
