Marina Abramović announced that she will depict “La Divina” in her newest film project.

Abramović conceived the title and premise for the work twenty-five years ago, and is finally going into production in 2015. Entitled Seven Deaths, Abramović will depict Callas in the performance of death scenes from Carmen, La Traviata, Madam Butterfly and Tosca, as well as the death of Ms. Callas in 1977 from a heart attack, or “a broken heart”.

This work is expected to be the artist’s “most substantial”, and includes a renown group of collaborators and consultants including directors Roman Polanski, Alejandro Iñárritu and several others.

According to The Art Newspaper, Abramović has tackled mortality before, notably in The Life and Death of Marina Abramović, which premièred in 2011. But “Seven Deaths” may mark the end of her morbid streak. “Finishing The Life and Death of Marina Abramović was one thing. When I finish ‘Seven Deaths’, I’m done with dying,” she says.
