I was reminded recently of how much my mentor affected my career when I was given a very generous gift from the Dean of the College of Architecture and Design at Virginia Tech. Henri de Hahn presented me with this beautiful drawing by Olivio Ferrari, my mentor and teacher during my 5 years in architecture school at Virginia Tech.
Immediately, I was struck by the similarity of drawing style as you see below in my sketch! I never thought I could draw, until we were required to document our European travels for a summer semester in Europe. I understood from Mr. Ferrari that, in what ever style you can, your vision matters. So, after many cities across Europe and a stay on the island of Santorini, I began to see my hand as I linked the many memories together.
