Monumental gift to The Art Institute of Chicago fills gaps

Recently, The Art Institute of Chicago was the lucky recipient of 42 iconic contemporary works of art. More than the monetary significance (of roughly $400 million) was the fact that The Art Institute’s curators were able to choose the pieces they felt best supplemented the museum’s existing collection. As a perfect example. previously low on Warhols, now there are nine in the collection. Stefan Edlis and Gael Neeson agreed to this landmark gift after much negotiation, in which the key point was that the museum has pledged to show all 42 pieces as a group for the next 25 years.

As one of the largest gifts int he 136-year history of the museum, this amazing collection of Postwar and Pop Art is set to be installed on the second floor of the wing in November 2015 and will go on display in January of 2016.
