Architecture

The Open House

In collaboration with the Chicago Architecture Biennial, Wisconsin based artist, Sarah FitzSimons
installed House on Ohio Beach in Chicago. The sculpture uses aluminum poles to create the outline of a typical two-story home found throughout the Midwest. The sculpture has no roof or walls. “Blending the inside and outside of architecture, its minimal lines define the space of a house, yet it physically and psychologically opens and exposes the architecture and how we metaphorically view, think and dream about homes,” said FitzSimons. The sculpture was installed from 10.03 to 10.25 and was one of three presented by 6018north, a cultural organization that has partnered with the Biennial. The sculpture was originally installed in Woodside, California for a Djerassi Residency. But journeyed to Chicago for a short period of time! We were so excited to experience this work as it is a true exploration of architectural form and function.
