Our newest obsession: indigo-dyed bowls!

Brazilian-born and Los Angeles- raised artist, Silvia Song, makes beautiful objects. Her handcrafted maple-dyed bowls are “colored” in the age-old tradition of Japanese Indigo Vat. The indigo plant is combined with lye water, fermenting for a month; in essence, causing the blue dye to “activate”. This time-consuming process is well worth it. The beautiful color along with the aesthetics of Song’s bowls make for accessories that beg to be stared at!

The dye for Song’s bowls was created from a collaboration wtih natural dyer, Kristine Vejar.

The maple nest bowls come in 3 sizes:

small: 4.5″D x 2.75″H, medium: 8″D x 3″H and large: 10.5″D x 3″H

Kitchenware seller, March SF, is undoubtedly thrilled with the popularity of these “blue bowls!”

From this angle, the color can be truly appreciated. Due to the delicate nature of the dye, it’s recommended that these bowls be used as “objects of art” or to store dry items only.
