Outside of Shanghai, China, the Intercontinental Hotel is building a unique new location. Rather than
building a skyscraper, the new hotel will be built 19 stories underground in an abandoned quarry. The 380-room hotel was designed with sustainability in mind: it will generate its energy geothermally and features a substantial green roof. The lowest two floors will be underwater and will feature an underwater restaurant and a 10-meter deep aquarium. Construction is scheduled to be complete in 2017.
