Since 2019, Julia Ransom and Johanna Dunn have been plotting their futures; working together the duo put forth a lot of research into the marketplace prior to founding Ransom & Dunn. The US-born, London-based friends debuted their collection last spring; it is meant to be (courtesy of Financial Times) “the cornerstones of the home.”

The creative collaboration is a display of an interiors brand for a contemporary lifestyle; it examines (courtesy of Fabric Magazine) “a vision of balance, exploring the harmony between aesthetic and function, classic and contemporary, and strength and sensuality.”

The debut collection is called “Foundations;” it includes 29 made-to-order furniture and accessory pieces. Among those pieces was a sofa, armchair, free-standing storage unit, floor lighting, arched mirrors, architectural design columns, and ceramic accessories.

The collection was influenced by the pair’s favorite European cities, and the neoclassical architecture of ancient times. Going along with this theme were the furniture pieces’ names; specifically, each piece was named after a character from Greco-Roman mythology.

At Ransom & Dunn, the role of sustainability remains relevant. The designers are committed to creating pieces that will always appear timeless and always be able to withstand the test of time. Ransom and Dunn are dedicated to (courtesy of Fabric Magazine) “being a socially responsible business.” That means working with companies that have the same values, providing fair wages to workers, adhering to safe working conditions, focusing on materials that leave a minimal carbon footprint, and creating products that will become family heirlooms.

The materials used in Foundations are mostly neutral; a characteristic that Ransom touts as “not boring.” She says (courtesy of Financial Times) “We don’t think neutrals are ever boring. This is a new kind of glamour.” The upholstery pieces were all constructed in Derbyshire in the UK, and finished in cotton velvet, wool alpaca, velvet mohair, or bouclé… an elegant, yet earthy, palette.

The materials for the non-upholstery pieces come from around the world; they includes onyx, marble, and travertine sourced from Turkey. In addition, the lighting collection comes from eco-resin that was sourced from Portugal.

Maybe what we love the most is Ransom & Dunn’s commitment to stand behind their products… whether new or used. The company’s buy-back service allows customers to have complete faith in their purchases. Courtesy of the company’s website, “Purchases are part of life. Situations change.”

So… if you aren’t completely satisfied with your purchase, or if it is time for a change, the innovative company will take back the unwanted or damaged piece in exchange for a fair price in credit toward a future Ransom & Dunn purchase. The returned piece will be given a new lease on life, via the same responsible methods by which it was originally created, and sold to a new owner. We absolutely love this commitment by the newly-minted company… and we know we will be seeing their beautiful designs for years to come!
