Samarkand Bazaar and Textile Weavers

Last week we talked about how our Senior Designer, Gosia, traveled to Uzbekistan and spent time in the ancient town of Samarkand. In addition to the amazing architecture, Samarkand was an important stop on the Silk Road and therefore has a vast merchant culture. Today we take a look at Gosia’s pictures from the famous central Bazaar of Samarkand and the tradition of textiles that exist in the town.

The Bazaar has many food vendors but also crafts play a large role there as well. Here you see ceramics and Suzani cloths.

The tradition of Ikats in Samarkand dates back for centuries. There are many skilled women working in the market on these beautiful cloths.
