San Francisco Sculpture by Vaea Marx

We were introduced to Vaea Marx‘s works by Collier Gwin of Foster-Gwin, Inc. in San Francisco. The works are outstanding large ceramic sculptures. Marx was born in Tahiti and studied in Paris and Japan before settling in San Francisco in 1966. You can see the influence of study abroad particularly in the glazing of Marx’s works.

While Marx has shown at SFMOMA and a few other institutions, he was not keen on promoting himself. Many believe that he has been under recognized for his outstandingly original works of art. Here are a few of our favorites!
