Sculptural Fluidity: Pablo Atchugarry

We were recently in the Dominican Republic where we are working on a wonderful home surrounded by gardens and facing the open ocean with spectacular scale.  In researching the best vegetation for the elegant gardens, we were taken to the former home of Oscar de la Renta. Inside the house that has been kept exactly as it was when Oscar de la Renta lived there, was a book about the sculptor, Pablo Atchugarry.  The book was well used and after one swift glance we understood why.  The artist’s ability to express with massive fluid pieces of sculpted stone is outrageous!  Atchugarry carves in stone to perfection, creating sculpture of a highly refined aesthetically pleasing appearance.  They appear soft and elegant, yet with the great strength of stone.  The tag line of the book about Atchugarry is “A Journey Between Matter and Light” and is a perfect description of his works.
