Sculpture steals the show at the Evening Auctions

The Impressionist and Modern Auctions took place this past week in New York City. And while we usually discuss some of our selections from this type of auction, today we want to highlight the two star pieces of the Sotheby’s Evening Auction that took place on November 4th. Both pieces are sculpture and stunningly beautiful. The world of art truly does not get more magnificent than the masterpieces by Modigliani and Giacometti that were on sale. Sotheby’s released this video showcasing the wonder of the two works. Additionally, they created this video of Giacometti discussing his creative process.

The pieces sold for record breaking prices, in what was reportedly a rather boring auction room. There was little action on the York Ave. floor at Sotheby’s. Rather the bidding was predominantly conducted on the phones. Alberto Giacometti’s Chariot sold for $100,965,000 and Amedeo Modigliani’s Tete sold for $70,725,000.
