Sigmar Polke’s installation at Chicago’s Park Hyatt embraced by city!

In a city that has long embraced public art, it’s no surprise that Sigmar Polke’s “Siberian Meteorites” resin and mineral 8-foot wide painting on display at Chicago’s Park Hyatt has received much celebration.

In recent years, Park Hyatt properties have been instrumental for incorporating modern art into their visitor’s luxury experiences. In particular, the Pritzker Family has aimed toward displaying contemporary artists in the hotels’ gathering spaces, adhering to their family’s love of contemporary art.

“Siberian Meteorites” is important to understanding Polke due to his fascination with meteors. Cosmic elements abounded his works as he integrated mineral materials into his artwork. The illusion of depth is evident and the feeling of movement among the painted meteorites is visceral.

“Siberian Meteorites was recently purchased by Hyatt from the Estate of Sigmar Polke, Cologne.
