To see Mr. Spielberg accept this award last night with such humility and strength of character was an astounding experience!
The Lincoln Leadership Prize recognizes outstanding leaders in diverse fields with an unwavering commitment to the defining principals of democracy. Past recipients include Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Bill Clinton and Sandra Day O’Connor. This year’s recipient was Stephen Spielberg, who was honored last night for a body of work that focuses upon individual courage and celebrates the resiliency of the human spirit.
Deeply moved by the experience of directing the film Shindler’s List, Mr. Spielberg started the Righteous Person’s Foundation, donating his portion of the film’s profits to help support a flourishing and meaningful Jewish community. In more recent years, he has added funds from his films Munich and Lincoln to the Foundation.
