THREADS and The Albers Foundation

THREAD, the newest extension of the Josef and Anni Albers Foundation is located in the quiet surroundings of Sinthian in eastern Senegal.  The foundation, whose mission is to continue to promote the legacy of the Bauhaus and Black Mountain College, has created a quiet hideaway for artists to extend the pleasure of making while offering the local people with a chance to learn and explore the arts.  Executive Director Nicholas Fox Weber has been brave in his duties to extend the Albers’ way of art making.  THREAD honors Anni Albers, who said that she decided to “take thread wherever it might go.”  Her weaving experiments inspired the famous Nantucket Looms and one of our favorite textile lines, Rogers & Goffigon.

The building was designed by Toshiko Mori.
