Treasure Hunt for Textiles

Suzanne shared with us her experience searching for textiles in Bali!

“I spent several days during my recent trip to Bali in search of everything wonderful in the world
of Batik and Ikat.  I was thrilled to have the opportunity to find quite a few treasures of older antique Ikats, some of which show literal wear and tear, but the craftsmanship is spectacular. Our plan is to have them cleaned and conserved here in the States, and then to mount them with overall basting to a natural linen stretched canvas.  They become beautiful works of art on walls that need a splash of color.”

This Ikat is from Palemboang, South Sumatra, Indonesia. And was likely used as a male headscarf.
