“The Triangle” will become Paris’ first skyscraper in over 40 years!

After countless debates and battles, Parisians gave permission for the first skyscraper in over 30 years to be built in the “City of Love”. It certainly wasn’t easy to get approval for the design of the 180-meter Tour Triangle. Swiss firm Herzog & de Meuron (they also designed the Beijing’s infamous Bird’s Nest for the 2008 Olympics) has proposed a tall glass pyramid with trapezoid base, wide from one side and narrow from another. The glass is intended to minimize shadows cast on the neighboring residential buildings with the hopes it will more easily blend into the area. The Triangle will house both offices and a hotel and is slated for a 2020 opening. We wish them all the luck!

Prior to the building’s approval, Paris’s mayor, Anne Hidalgo, is argued that the city needs new high-rise construction to move into the future.
