The Whimsical World of Fornasetti

Piero Fornasetti (1913 – 1988) is one of the most iconic Italian artist who lived mostly in Milan his whole life. As a firstborn child of a rich bourgeois family in Milan, his parents wanted him to go into business. But Fornasetti had a huge imagination and was constantly drawing and sketching in notebooks. He was determined to become an artist and enrolled in the Brera Academy to study art against his father’s wishes. However his character clashed with the schools academic structure and Fornasetti left without graduating.

After school Fornasetti traveled extensively, gathering inspiration before returning to Italy. When he returned, Fornasetti began linking his drawings to objects. Throughout his lifetime Fornasetti created over 11,000 items, many of which are still sold today. Here are a few of our favorites.
