On March 12th, the Audain Art Museum opened in Whistler, British Columbia. The museum houses Michael and Yoshiko Audain’s collection of British Columbian art and includes works from the province’s first people through contemporary artists of today. While the collection is outstanding, we are amazed with the architecture of the museum.
The museum was design by Vancouver-based Patkau Architects. Patkau Architects has won several Governor General’s Medals in Architecture. The Barnes House and the Newton Library are highlights in their body of work for us. This museum is yet another example of their attention to the surroundings. John Patkau said of the building, “The feeling is that the museum will be quietly inserted into a void within the forest.” The sleek structure accomplishes just that!
We can’t wait to check out the museum for ourselves.
