The Windsor Chair is a classic style that has been reinterpreted time and again. It is not known where the first Windsor Chair was made, but in the 16th century, wheelwrights started making chair spindles the same way they were making wheel spokes. By the 18th century, the steam-bending technique was being used to create the classic bow shape. The name Windsor Chair likely was given to the chairs because they were exported through Windsor, Berkshire. Therefore, it really denotes a style, not the maker or origin of the chair. Even today we see new interpretations of the Windsor chair.
