The Winterthur Museum in Delaware holds a special place for us; Suzanne’s mother was a scholar and guide at Winterthur for over 30 years. Suzanne began learning about American art and furniture through her visits to the storied home of Henry Francis du Pont. Suzanne went back to the museum with her daughter and mother this weekend and were reminded of the amazing history the home possesses.
The 175 room home sits on 60 acres and holds 90,000 objects of historic significants. It is a spectacular encyclopedic look at American craftsmanship, from Chinese export wear to Shaker. Our favorite room is the entry foyer with the Montmorenci Staircase, which was taken from a historic home and converted from a circular to an oval staircase to fit the space within Winterthur.
