2 artists fill their vessels with meaning

Both Sara Moorhouse and Peter Pincus recently showcased their contemporary vessels at Ferrin Contemporary’s “Glazed and Diffused” show. From the artists on display, these two immediately caught our attention due to their use of fired clay and colored glaze to portray an abstract and contemporary quality.

Sara Moorhouse uses color to trick the eye into perceiving movement. Her contrasting tones make the forms seem as though they are pulsating and vibrating before our very eyes. Moorhouse experiments with simultaneous contrast; in essence, creating an optical illusion.

Peter Pincus, on the other hand, creates 3-dimensional paintings on his pots with colorful strips of porcelain. Pincus likes to say that even though the shapes are opulent, they remain useful for special occasions.

Sara Moorhouse’s glazed bowls come in an array of bright, often primary, colors.

The patterns and frequency of lines on these vessels imply undulations found within nature.
